OUR STORY 

Kanfuela Kaffé is a specialty coffee company founded by Déborah Kabwang Makuma, inspired by her deep love for coffee and her Congolese heritage. Her grandparents once owned a coffee farm along the Lubilanji River (now known as Sankuru River) in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She comes from generations of coffee drinkers, farmers, and visionaries. 

"Kanfuela" means "coffee" in Tshiluba, a Bantu language from the Lomani and Kassaï provinces.

FROM DEBORAH:

“I grew up watching my dad drinking coffee religiously every single morning, and even going as far as getting it shipped from France because he “didn’t like the taste of American coffee.”

As a creative and former educator, who also grew up in France, I became obsessed with the coffee culture and finding truly incredible coffee that not only taste amazing, but that could also fuel my focus and boost my productivity. A life-changing trip to D.R. Congo in 2021 cemented my mission, and that's how KANFUELA KAFFÉ was born.”

In January 2022, Kanfuela Kaffé launched as a specialty coffee roastery in Phoenix, Arizona. Our vision was to source single-origin coffee from D.R. Congo and work closely with coffee producers and farmers in the Kivu region of D.R. Congo.

Our passion lies in creating a unique coffee experience for all customers, such as wholesale partners, online customers, or our local community. We roast in small batches to ensure the optimum peak of flavor and deliver the finest, top-grade beans to our customers to help fuel their focus and boost productivity!

 As of 2024, we rebranded and added a full espresso mobile coffee menu to the business to offer private coffee catering to local events in Phoenix, Arizona, as well as pop-ups, such as Farmers Markets and festivals.
